Thank you for leaving it.

My supervisor and I had a similar conversation yesterday, discussing my frustrations at feeling so in between two worlds - the queer and the straight. I've realised recently that this has caused me to alienate myself from both a fair bit.

Thanks again. :)

I love reading your in-progress stuff here! It takes me back to the days when I could induge in queer(ing) research instead of just trudging through the dissertation.

This notion of clear visible coding of queerness being the only signifier of subversion has long troubled me. Possibly because I've always been girly and have attempted to resolve my own insecurities ('passing' and then actually being in a non-same-sex relationship, as 'queer' as I'm convinced (or hope) it is). I'd like to think that queer signification happens in more subtle ways - gestures, attitudes - and not just in haircuts or attire or physical attributes. But being as I'm already immersed in notions of queer, and therefore 'educated' in reading signs I'm probably much more aware of reading these minute gestures in particular ways. Perhaps moreso than your 'average bear'.

Great, interesting stuff. Glad you're getting the cogs turning for me again :)
